We Love Festivals!

A festival at CBSW is an event (especially when it includes our Religious School students)!

At Sukkot we enjoy our congregational Sukkah on our back deck. The religious school children decorate it for us after the men’s group builds it. We also enjoy social events out there. In addition, we have services on the first and last day of the holiday (Simchat Torah). We often also celebrate the third graders’ beginning their Hebrew education on or near the holiday of Simchat Torah.

On Chanukah we celebrate the festival with a Chanukah/Shabbat service and invite every family to bring and light their menorahs. Our Religious School students celebrate Chanukah with skits for parents and craft projects. Our Sisterhood, Havurat Nashim, holds a Chanukah party every year for the women of CBSW, and our other social organizations also celebrate the holiday.

On Tu Bishvat, the holiday of trees, we plant trees and involve our Religious School students in environmental/Jewish education.

On Purim we rejoice with the Religious School and whole congregation, featuring a costume parade, games, magicians, dancing, hamantaschen, and—of course!—a dramatic reenactment of the Megillah story.

In addition to worship services on the first and last day of Passover, we offer a Second-Night Seder, filled with great food, singing, and celebration.

On Shavuot—or in its season—we celebrate the Kabbalat Torah and the continued Jewish commitment of our 10th-grade students during their Confirmation. We also have a Shavuot morning service.
