As I hope you have heard, the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston will honor six leaders at its Community Awards Night on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m., at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center Kaplan Theatre. Award recipients include lay leaders, Jewish communal professionals, and leaders in Jewish education who are “carrying the torch” of the Houston Jewish community.

Our very own Helen Richard will receive the Harold Reingold Yavneh Award for Jewish Educators. As is widely known, Helen’s love of Judaism and people makes her central to the warmth of CBSW. Her strong interpersonal skills and working closely with many—from children to those in leadership positions—have greatly enhanced her community-building impact. Wherever there is an educational, programming, or social activity, Helen plays a key role in its creation and development. The Community Leadership Awards program is open to the community and free to attend. Space is limited and registration is required. Personally and professionally, I am so proud of Helen and so appreciative of her way of making CBSW vibrant. Her passion, kindness, and professionalism drive this place, and we are so fortunate to have her.
